Disability Rights Oregon – Accessible Voting Tablets
Rooted in Rights worked with Disability Rights Oregon to create “Disability Rights Oregon and Accessible Voting Tablets” that discuss the use of technology that allowed disabled residents to cast their votes without hindrance. Mary Lee Turner and Rachel Simpson discuss the obstacles they experienced while voting and how using technology create independence in their ability to vote. Oregon created the Alternate Format Ballot which is available online or residents can request to state voting officials to have the voting equipment brought to their homes to use. These various methods affords disabled residents the opportunity to vote comfortably and feel included in the voting process.
