Tim Howard grew up in New Jersey, where he was diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome (a syndrome where you vocalize uncontrollably) at age 10.
He was a goalkeeper for the following teams: Everton and the USA National team, where he was the third choice (and later first choice) goalie. He felt forced to hide his condition and constantly fought it, especially in middle school.
Although this pushed him back, he was cheered by the fact that many athletes with Tourette’s Syndrome were successful. Eventually he became one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
