MIT researcher discusses the future of bionics

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Hugh Herr, head of the MIT Media Lab’s Biomechatronics group, takes to the Ted talks stage to explore the future uses of bionics for people with physical disabilities. Herr, who lost his lower legs in a climbing incident thirty years ago, explains and demonstrates exactly how bionics function. He is not alone in demonstrating the success of bionic technology; Adrianne Haslet-Davis, a dancer who lost her left leg in the Boston Marathon bombing, joins him onstage for her first performance since the terrorist attack.
