Recent ad series campaigns to #EndTheAwkward

Scope is a UK charity that, according to the About page on their website, “exists to make [Britain] a place where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else.” Scope has recently produced a series of ads aimed at helping people without disabilities be less awkward when interacting with people who do have disabilities. The project was developed with the help of Grey London, an advertising firm, and celebrity Alex Brooker. The ads include suggestions of how to stand when having a conversation with someone who uses a wheelchair, or what to do when trying to “chat up” a deaf person. The series also features interviews with people who have disabilities who discuss awkward encounters they’ve had in the workplace. The message behind the series, delivered with a dose of characteristic British humor, is that there will always be uncomfortable moments in life, but there are also ways to “end the awkward” and, really, to just be a polite individual.

These videos may begin with a commercial which was not chosen by or for the benefit of DisAbility Rights Galaxy.

So great! What a beautiful concept! These would make great PSA’s here in the states.
